Finally. After years of craving a cat I got one. Huzzah. Been wanting a cat for a long, long time since mid school. A cute birthday gift. It was so much fun going in to pick the one out.
First grandma and I went to a little shelter called Freeman Fritts. They had their own site and even pictures of cats and dogs. They were a little outdated on a few but some looked promising. However when I walked into the place it wasn't exactly the best of feels. Like they were a little rundown and kind of out of hand or a little short handed and slow with some stuff. Went to the back to see the ones advertised. Certainly weren't kittens anymore, but not really connecting to me. They took me farther back to meet new arrivals.
One broke my heart the moment I saw him. A black and white kitten named Rocky. His face looked horrible but my gosh his personality made me melt. He had ear mites and was getting that fixed but also a possible ringworm issue so that would put him out for a few weeks. He was really sweet and just wanted to be petted. He kept meowing and rubbing along the door and just crying at us. It was heart breaking. Some person who owned him tossed him. I mean not like tossing him out not wanting I mean literal tossing into the air to get him away. The cat kept coming back just wanting to be home. The owner gave up and brought him to the shelter. I'm glad it wasn't any worse than that.
Two other eight week old kittens were cute but needed their vaccinations and so on. Real young and cute but not really social. Another however the shelter employee went on about him. Barthelomeow. Bart for short. He was a beautiful black medium haired cat. He was six months I believe. He let him out to explore. He was a purring machine. Really cute and all. Used to be feral but he was found in rush hour traffic with a limping leg and it took a while for him to really socialize but he seemed more connected to the employee than anything so that was disappointing. He looked promising. So none of the kittens there really got me. Rocky though was probably the only one but needed tons of work despite his illnesses. I would have waited. His story just tore me up.
We then went to another shelter to let that visit sink in. This second shelter was just out of this world amazing. They do not ever put down an animal unless its a must if aggressive or too ill. No. They let these animals live there in this wonderful place. Have a fenced yard for dogs and a place for cats. They will let them live there forever. It was in great shape and everything. Really well looked after. I was just amazed that there was a shelter like this. It was a paradise for animals. The inside though they had five office cats running around. So cute and friendly, but once you get to the cat area. Folks if you are a cat lover you are going to die if you walk in there. You'll just think you stepped in heaven. They small hall is for the nursery cats. I mean less than six months old. On either side of the hall are small rooms for cats up for adoption. The kittens were because they were still being nursed and so on. They don't sell cats til they are six months and older but my gosh. They were the cutest things. I lost count of how many. The lady knew every single kitty.
Went to the far back room to see the youngest of the adoptables. In each little room there is about six to seven cats. Their own little area for you to come in and interact and socialize and connect. The moment I got in three of them were instant cuddlers. THe one I ended up picking was a cat named Mr. Peepers. I didn't fancy the name. Going to change that. But oh my gosh. He was such a cuddly thing and big for six month old one. He was perfect. All white except for a grey spot on his head. He was the best and just what I wanted. Really social and good with other cats. Hopefully with dogs as a friend brings his two toy poodles. But this one was just instant love. Grandma and I staid for a bit too to see other potential ones and older ones and shamefully playing with the kittens. One was a troublemaker. Black kitten used me as a ladder and perch and nestled on my shoulders without a care. Loved it. He's a climber. Elpie I think his name was. There some really pretty and cute kittens but too bad they weren't up for sale, but I loved Peepers the best out of them all.
He had everything done just needs to be microchipped. We'll do that soon enough. Got him on that day too because he was already prepped with everything. It was a shocker. Got the kennel from home and came back and picked him up. He was a little noisy for five minutes but nestled down and enjoyed the ride. When I got him in my room he instantly wanted out. I wanted to let him sit and take it all in but no. He wanted out. Now. I let him out. Ventures then just wants to cuddle after that. He loves to be next to me. I need to get him to nestle with others so I'm not the only one. Its good to socialize him with others.
Right now he's nestled next to the keyboard enjoying the laptop's heat. It took a while to get him off. He likes to push buttons and chase the mouse.
But yes. I'm glad I got my desired kitten. Can't wait to grow up with him. He'll be a good kitty. He's real big for 6 months. o.o
Once FA comes up again I'll put up pictures of him.
